Inspired by artist Beauford Delaney’s devotion to color and the deep friendships that shaped his artistic world, Chromic Duo presents a program exploring love as a creative force and a path toward belonging. Joined by violinist, violist, and composer Madeline Hocking, the trio reframes works by Maurice Ravel, Frédéric Chopin, John Cage, and Igor Stravinsky through a diasporic lens.

Anchored by Schubert’s Winterreise and Max Richter’s Recomposed: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons, Chromic curates an evening in which the Wanderer travels through seasons of renewal, loss, and resilience. Through Chromic’s intimate storytelling and expressive performance style, these familiar pieces are reimagined as a meditation on change itself, reminding audiences that grief, beauty, and renewal are part of the same cycle.

Commissioned by Washington Performing Arts and the Tregaron Conservancy, with support from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the soundwalk launches October 17 at Tregaron Unplugged. An augmented reality soundwalk, the work reveals a hidden layer of stories, music, and sound design woven throughout the Conservancy’s trails. Through an app available on iOS and Android, audiences are invited to wander, listen, and discover—encountering voices and sounds that transform the landscape into a living archive of memory.

Join us and Lee Kim as we lead a guest lecture and workshop at the CUNY Graduate Center’s Data Visualization and Storytelling Intensive Course, centered on our long-term project From Roots We Carry. Drawing from three years of audience responses gathered through touring the work, students will collaborate in groups to analyze text-based data and explore creative, ethical, and accessible ways of translating lived experiences into public-facing visual and narrative forms.
