When I face myself, I often see a complexity I could not understand. Overwhelmed, I question who I am, what I am, why I am, quite consistently. I wonder how to embrace all of myself completely, or if it is even possible.

“as i am” is a beginning and an attempt to discover self worth and self love. It is a time capsule that captures the state of being absolutely true and within oneself, without criticism, comparison, judgment, ambitions, desires or dreams.

It is the state when you connect to the roots of your existence at this present moment. Until you are so deep within yourself that you are underwater, searching for that place of acceptance. To sometimes surface to finding moments of clarity, and other times, liberated to knowing that in this consciousness, it is just you, and you alone.

How strangely difficult it is, to just be.

“As I Am” (2022) is a dynamic work created for a solo dancer, and utilizes motion capture technology as a core component. Premiered by the Brooklyn Motion Capture Dance Ensemble, this piece delves into the interactive relationship between dancer and sound, facilitated by the precision of motion capture. Unlike traditional choreography that follows a predetermined musical score, “As I Am” offers the dancer agency, allowing them to influence and trigger specific sound elements spatially, offering a collaborative experience where both movement and music evolve symbiotically.
